DESCRIPTION: Heartwood is a deep purple-violet when freshly cut, maturing to a dark brown. The original color is restored when re-cut. Grain is straight, but often irregular, wavy & sometimes interlocked. Texture is moderate to fine. Weight varies from about 50lbs to 63lbs per cu. ft. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: South Amerca BOTANICAL NAME: Peltogyn Pubescens WORKING PROPERTIES: Difficult to work. Recommend running material slowly through machines. Pre-drilling needed for nailing. Takes glue well. Stains & wax polishes easily. USES: Tool handles, turning, furniture, decorative veneers, inlay & marquetry. SIZES: The stock is surfaced on two sides to 1 3/4" thickness & kiln dried. The widths run 5"-8" & the lengths run 36"-59". NOTE: Widths & lengths may vary up to 1/16" of an inch.
