DESCRIPTION: The wood is a reddish brown in color with dark brown streaks. Texture is medium, heavy and finishes with a high natural polish; similar to Rosewood. Grain is irregular, and interlocked with alternating layers of hard and soft wood. Weight is 59lbs per cu. ft. Sometimes known as Tigerwood. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: South America (Brazil) BOTANICAL NAME: Astronium Fraxinifolium or Astronium Lecointei WORKING PROPERTIES: Difficult to work. Pre-drilling is required for nailing, but holds screws well. Glues easily & finishes with a high natural polish. USES: High-class furniture & cabinetmaking, fancy goods & decorative work. Excellent for turning. Sliced veneers used in architectural paneling & face veneering. Also used for interior hardwood flooring & exterior decking. SIZES: Surfaced on two sides to 13/16" thickness by 6" & wider by 36"-59" in lengths. NOTE: Widths & lengths may vary up to 1/16" of an inch.
