DESCRIPTION: This is a very rare African species; as with most ebony the color varies from non uniform black to uniform black. Most ebony is air dried. The stock we carry is Kiln dried making it much more stable than Air dried. This wood is very fine textured & very hard & dense. The weight is 63lbs per cubic foot. Gaboon ebony is believed to be the blackest wood that grows. Our stock is kiln dried. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: African (West African) BOTANICAL NAME: Diospyrus Crassiflora WORKING PROPERTIES: Very hard wood to work with hand or power tools. Pre-boring is necessary for nailing & screwing. Takes glue well, and it can be polished to an excellent finish. USES: Tool, cutlery and knife handles, door knobs, butt ends of billiard cues, piano and organ keys, violin and guitar finger boards, other musical instrument pieces, turning, fancy articles and inlay. SIZES: 1 15/16" thickness by 3" to 6" wide by 12"-48" in lengths. NOTE: Width & length may vary up to 1/16" of an inch.
